Onion pakoda is a crispy Indian snack spiced fritter, made mainly with onion and gram flour. This is a healthy version I made in the air fryer, using very little oil while keeping all the tradional flavor and crunch.
Ingredients
Onion - 1 large thinly sliced
Besan (gram flour): ½ cup
Rice flour: 2 tbsp
chilli powder 1 teaspoon
Turmeric powder- ¼ teaspoon
Ajwain/ carom seeds: ½ tsp
Coriander seeds: ½ tsp crush between palms
Fennel seeds: ½ tsp
Curry leaves 8 to 10
Baking soda 1 pinch (optional)
Salt to taste
Oil for brushing
Preparation
Slice the onion thin. Add salt rest for 10 minutes, if you want to add 100 grams of cabbage, it’s completely optional.
Add besan flour, rice flour, Chilli powder, turmeric powder. Salt, and ajwain. Add Fennel seeds, coriander seeds, curry leaves and baking soda optional Add a little water. Mix the batter.
The batter should coat the onion and clump together.
Preheat the air fryer 350 degrees Fahrenheit, or 180 degrees Celsius. Drop the rough clumps into the basket and do not over crowd. Spray with oil, Air fry for 10 to 12 minutes, flipping or shaking the basket for 6 minutes.
For a golden crisp, increase the temperature to 400 degrees in heat. For 2 to 3 minutes.
Transfer to a plate and serve with mint chutney.
